Reflexionsstatement

Reflexion statement

We, the organizing circle, have decided to publish a reflective statement which is meant to shed light on the reason why the content of our first call to action has been incomplete and therefore inadequate. It’s important to us to explain why this has been the case. It is important to us because we hope for understanding but also because others might feel similarly. Furthermore, establishing a constructive error culture matters to us.

Firstly, we’d like to clarify that we operate as a very loose group of people; we know, like, and trust each other but we aren’t organized within one fixed structure and haven’t formulated one shared standpoint. This is also how the preparation of this protest is structured. We meet and discuss in changing constellations, some take on tasks in the background, there is a great confidence that things will eventually work out. The preparation of the protest seems necessary to us, but it is not the focus of our political work, we therefore work on it alongside other things. Positive about this is that this way the organization of a protest does not eat up all the available resources; however, this clearly becomes an issue when it comes to content.

Some of us have accepted the text without much grumbling and were glad that someone had taken on the task of writing it. There was little in the text itself that has wholeheartedly been questioned, and if there was, it had simply been endured, after all the text was supposed to be published as quickly as possible. Others, on the other hand, were aware of gaps in the text’s content and had been meaning to fill them in later.

Furthermore, we – and we assume the same for the others at this point – are hardly or not at all able to name and discuss controversies. It is not established to bring up our complex considerations and unresolved questions. Too often we keep silent about the precise variedness of our own opinion and instead convey it to others in an abbreviated and almost buzzword-like manner. This is also what happened in our call to action.

For a better understanding, we would also like to briefly explain our relationship with the Antifa Ost trial and the accompanying solidarity work. The solidarity network Antifa Ost is not involved in the preparation of this protest because we criticize their lack of reappraisal of sexualised violence, perpetrators, and perpetrator protection – an anti-patriarchal stance is not visibly displayed outwards. However, we should have explicitly formulated our delineation in the organisation and our reasons for it, otherwise nobody besides ourselves would be able to know.

It was and still is difficult for us to express our criticism of the solidarity network Antifa Ost this explicitly. To date, there has been little discernible criticism that sheds light on the current state of the movement, and of this paragraph 129 trial in particular. In this tense situation caused be repression, it is difficult to formulate criticism while simultaneously not allowing it to turn into distancing and lacking solidarity.

We are organising this protest to defend our ideas of autonomous anti-fascism! We are in solidarity with the defendants in the 129 trial because they are on trial for militant action against Nazis.

Our conclusion is that especially now that these difficulties and differences are visible, we have to further strengthen and differentiate our shared conviction. In a call for protest, too, we have to explicitly address, criticise and work on more than we did in the first text.

We will not get through these hard times together if we keep quiet about our mistakes and deficiencies. Instead, it will weaken us even more if we pretend to be united where we are not, and there will be no unity until it is clear which beliefs we share!

We will publish more calls to action…
